A Checklist

1. The holy grail of all trombonists, TONE. Just came back from bernard's house, he had put on a lindbergh CD and BAM! that, my friend, is TONE. Air support, proper embochure, everything put together gives you a tone like molten gold.

Now, jeremy says it's pretty good, but that's only for moderate volumes, moderate ranges. Too low and i can't hit it anyway, or it ends up weak and... airy. Too high and it breaks down after a few counts. But this is the sort of thing that needs constant PRACTICE, and PRACTICE

2. Stamina. It's back to basics here, should be able to hold at least 16 at ff, constant volume, constant, golden tone, proper start and end. Currently, only about 8 with preparation, and usually I can't repeat it immediately. Embarassing leh =/ Again, practice.

3. Range. Oura's pieces generally don't need the lower notes (past low F), but should work on at least until low low bflat, pitch correctly and sustain. Upper should go to at least high high bflat, again done correctly. Of course this need stamina, to sustain the air for lower notes, and for embochure strength in the higher ones.

4. Slide technique. Must transition cleanly and smoothly, no unwanted gliss, no mispitching (QUAN HUI I WANT THAT SILICONE), LEARN HOW TO PLAY LEGATO.

5. Agility/Accuracy. Jump here and there. Enough liao. Too bad I don't have an ear for music.
